Published under the guidance of Indian National Commission for History of Science set up by the Academy since more than four decades now. The journal was first published in 1966 bianually. The articles started pouring in as the field got momentum and a lot of interest developed among the researchers working in various field of ancient, medieval and modern science in historical perspectives. It became an interesting forum for scientists, historians, sociologists, and philosophers for exchange of ideas on the evolution and characteristics of scientific concepts and technological advances. With increasing inflow of articles, the journal was made quarterly in 1984 and is being published in March, June, September, December every year. Besides research articles, the journal also publishes reports of relevant interest, book reviews, the supplements and important news articles as well.

INDIAN JOURNAL OF HISTORY OF SCIENCE General Instructions for the Contributors
Indian Journal of History of Science a peer–reviewed quarterly, publishes original research papers on history of science, technology, concepts including translation and critical assessment of original technical sources. The papers are published on the understanding that they are not offered elsewhere for publication. Neatly typed manuscripts in duplicate are to be submitted to the Editor, Indian Journal of History of Science, Indian National Science Academy, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, New Delhi 110002. Four-colour printing has been started. The authors are encouraged to submit the manuscript along with good quality colour photographs, line drawings in a CD or by mail at ijhs@insa.nic.in. For the purpose of review, two copies of book(s) may be sent to the above address.
Manuscript typing is to be made on one side of the paper in double spacing with wide margins in Times Roman. The title page should contain the title of the paper, name and address of the author (s) and a short abstract of the paper not exceeding 250 words, along with a list of key words.
Bibliography must be attached separately at the end of the article after arranging the entries (the surname of authors for articles/books and names of manuscripts for the classical texts) in alphabetical order with publication details, e.g.

Notes, if any, are to be given at the bottom of the page indicating their location in the text by sequentially running super-numbers. Bibliographical reference appearing in the notes or body of text should be short and indicated within third bracket the name of the author, year of publication within first bracket, and page numbers, e.g. [King (1981), p.44; Pāṭī.iii.4; Saraswati Amma (1977), p.15; Sarma (1988), p.8].
Diacritical marks should be used where necessary. Acknowledgements are to be placed separately at the end of the paper before Bibliography.
Off –Prints: Author(s) will get ten off-prints free.
Classical Texts with English translation and notes are accepted for publication serially in the Supplement section. Contributors to the Supplement are entitled to receive five free bound copies of their manuscript in book form after its publication.
